THE TOKAJ REGION

Tokaj is one of the oldest wine regions in the world, where evidence shows that sweet Aszú wines (akin to Trockenbeerenauslese) were made at least as far back as in 1570.
1737 a royal decree established one of the first protected appellations of the world in Tokaj.Considered precious enough to be enshrined in the text of Hungary’s National anthem, the wine of Tokaj has enjoyed veneration and glory around the world for centuries. Louis XIV. himself famously called it “the wine of kings, the king of wines “.
